How to dress for the office in summer

Dressing well for warm weather is a breeze, but hot weather is a whole different story. It’s like trying to find a stylish outfit that won’t make you sweat bullets. In fact, we’d say that if you can pull off both style and sweat-prevention, you’ll be the coolest cat in town during the warmer months. Here in Ireland, we’d be the first to admit that we don’t always get the best weather but this year has been a real scorcher and it’s set to get even warmer!

Short Sleeve shirt and chinos

Short-sleeved shirts are way cooler than long-sleeved ones. They look great with chinos or trousers. Just make sure the shirt fits well. It can be elegant or silly depending on how it looks on you. Make sure it’s not too tight or too loose. For pants, look for ones that are either cropped or have a hem that goes up easily. And lastly, make sure your top and bottom don’t match. One of the few colours that works is white. It’s a great summer outfit if you have the skin tone to pull it off.

Long Sleeved shirt and shorts or chinos

If your biceps have been feeling a bit swollen, try switching to a more traditional shirt style. The key is to make sure your top and bottom match. For instance, if you’re going for a smart sky-blue Oxford shirt, pair it with something equally tailored down below. If the weather is cool enough for a flannel or denim shirt, a rugged chino short would be a great choice. Just like before, make sure the shirt and shorts have some contrast. Otherwise, you might end up looking like you’re trying to pull off a men’s playsuit.

polo shirt and trousers

Sure, a well-chosen suit and shirt combo is always a great idea, but let’s be honest, even the most stylish outfits can get a bit too hot in the summer heat. So, is there a smarter-casual outfit than a simple T-shirt or polo shirt and a suit? Well, we’re not convinced. Swapping out a tight-fitting shirt for something more relaxed instantly makes your tailored looks more comfortable and gives them a modern vibe. Whether you’re dressing down a classic suit in a darker colour or a lightweight summer style in a brighter neutral shade, remember to add a contrasting layer underneath.
